President Joe Biden joked on Friday that House Republicans may try to impeach him now that the economy is doing better and inflation is cooling.
“The Washington Post suggested Republicans may have to find something else to criticize me for, now that inflation is coming down,” Biden said during a speech on his economic agenda in Auburn, Maine, according to The Hill. “Maybe they’ll decide to impeach me because it’s coming down. I don’t know. I love that one.”
The economy grew at a 2.4% rate in the second quarter, far outpacing the 1.8% growth economists projected, according to data released this week.
Additionally, the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index, a measure of inflation, increased at a 1.9% rate, slowing from the 3.8% pace in the first quarter.
“I’m not here to declare victory on the economy. We have more work to do. We have a plan for turning things around,” Biden said Friday. “Bidenomics is just another way of saying, ‘Restoring the American dream.’”
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy suggested earlier this week that Republicans may soon launch an impeachment investigation of Joe Biden as the GOP continue their series of probes targeting the president and members of his family.
“We’ve only followed where the information has taken us. But Hannity, this is rising to the level of impeachment inquiry, which provides Congress the strongest power to get the rest of the knowledge and information needed,” McCarthy told Fox News host Sean Hannity Monday night.
