Rep. Liz Cheney (R–Wyo) fired back at former national security adviser Michael Flynn after he said a coup like the one in Myanmar should take place in the United States.
“No American should advocate or support the violent overthrow of the United States,” Cheney wrote in a tweet.
Flynn, a prominent figure in the QAnon movement was the main attraction at the group’s conference in Dallas, Texas over the weekend. He was asked why a coup like the one in Myanmar–where the military overthrew the country’s democratically elected government and arrested its leaders– couldn’t happen in America.
The crowed cheered this question, then Flynn responded, “No reason. I mean, it should happen here.”
Flynn served as Donald Trump’s first national security adviser before he was fired in 2017. He pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about contacts with the Russian ambassador but was subsequently pardoned by Trump before he left office.
He has called for Donald Trump to deploy the military to rerun the election in the weeks after his loss. At the event over the weekend he falsely claimed that Trump had won the popular vote and the Electoral College.
