Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) slammed media outlets for giving Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene any attention, saying the Georgia Republican is “full of shit.”
Greene told reporters at a press conference Wednesday that she will force a vote to remove Johnson even though she does not have the votes because Democrats say they will kill the motion when it comes to the floor.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene is full of shit!” Swalwell said on The Dean Obeidallah Show, according to a clip shared by Mediaite. “She has said for the last couple of weeks that she’s going to throw Speaker Johnson out. And that’s because she just wants more chaos. She’s not in the solutions business. She just wants more chaos.”
He continued: “She doesn’t have, you know, backup to do it. And so, if she can have, you know, another microphone moment where reporters make her relevant and she can convene them, and just contribute to the chaos in Washington, she’ll keep doing that, and she’ll keep saying that this is going to come. And, of course, she’s not going to be able to do that.”
House Democratic leadership announced Tuesday that Democrats would help Johnson keep his job by voting to table a motion to oust him after the Speaker introduced and passed foreign aid package with additional aid for Ukraine.
“We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed,” House Democratic leaders said.
Swalwell praised Democratic leadership for the move noting that Democrats have been the ones providing the votes on several consequential pieces of legislation, including raising the debt ceiling and avoiding a government shutdown.
“I really admire the leadership that we have, who said, you know what, we’re not aligned with Johnson politically in any way, but we want to get things done,” he said. “And so we’re not going to let a chaos agent like Marjorie Taylor Greene just gum up the works here.”
