Eric Adams doesn’t rule out switching to the Republican Party.

New York City’s democratic mayor Eric Adams left open the possibility of switching parties in two interviews on Friday, POLITICO reports.

In an interview with NY1 Adams was asked whether he would consider joining the GOP.

“I’m a part of the American party,’ he responded. “I love this country.”

Asked to clarify his comments in a subsequent interview on PIX11, Adams once again did not give a definitive answer.

“No matter what party I’m on or vote on, I’m going to push for American values,” he said.

Adams has switched parties in the past. According to POLITICO, Adams was a member of the Republican party from 1995 through 2002.

The comments come as Adams has broken with Democrats over immigration and has promised to worked with the Trump administration on the issue. He is scheduled to meet with incoming border czar Tom Homan next week to discuss the Trump administration’s mass deportation plan, POLITICO reports.

Adams’ openness to Trump have led his critics to accuse him of trying to secure a presidential pardon if he is convicted on federal corruption charges including bribery and wire fraud charges.

Like Trump, Adams is falsely claiming that the justice department indicted him for political reasons.
