Fox News contributor and Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen criticized the Trump administration’s deal with Iran on Monday, calling it a “disaster.”

Iran demanded $300 billion as a massive reconstruction and investment package during negotiations with the Trump administration to end the war.

The Iranians say they secured the sum in the memorandum of understanding they plan to sign with the administration later this week to begin negotiations on their nuclear program. Vice President J.D. Vance did not deny the fund’s existence during an interview with CBS on Monday.

“That’s the sort of thing they could have access to, funded by the Gulf Coast coalition, so long as they honor their end of the obligation,” Vance said. “So we absolutely are open to the Gulf coast countries investing in the reconstruction of Iran, but only if Iran ends their nuclear program, ends their enriched stockpile of material, and is really open to an inspections and enforcement regime that gives the American people confidence they’re never gonna have a nuclear weapon.”

But Thiessen called the plan to fund Iran’s reconstruction a “disaster.”

“$300 billion to Iran under any circumstances is a disaster. Like offered the Marshall Plan to rebuild Germany while the Nazis were still in power,” he wrote on Twitter.

Thiessen reportedly holds enormous sway over Trump, especially the president’s foreign policy positions. He has been credited with persuading Trump to continue backing Ukraine in the country’s ongoing war with Russia.
