Donald Trump declared Friday that the fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States is “over,” but talks to reach a peace deal will continue.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue ‘talks.’ We have agreed to do so,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

“But the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!” he added.

Trump’s post comes after the United States launched new strikes against Iran after Tehran targeted multiple vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the critical waterway responsible for 20% of the global oil supply.

The US had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cease hostilities for 60 days to allow for diplomatic talks to continue. But US officials have accused Iran of violating the ceasefire and have revoked a waiver that would have lifted sanctions on Iran selling oil.
