Rapper Flo Rida is endorsing a Democrat for Congress after performing at Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair on Thursday night.

Flo Rida was one of the last remaining acts at the Freedom 250 event after several other musical performers pulled out of the event over concerns that it was too political after Trump and his allies hijacked the nonpartisan America 250 events.

Flo Rida faced backlash for his appearance at the event, but told the crowd at the fair Thursday night that he was there to celebrate America’s historic milestone.

“America’s birthday, this is something I don’t take for granted,” he said. “This is something that’s going down in history, to be here tonight. So, to come out here and show my gift and understand what purpose is, understand what the assignment is. It’s only right that we come out and spread contagious love.”

The rapper tried to distance himself from Trump and the Republican Party in a social media post. On the same night that he performed on the National Mall, Flo Rida formally endorsed Democrat Bernard Taylor, who is running for election to the U.S. House to represent Florida’s 21st Congressional District.

Flo Rida shared an Instagram Story to his 1 million followers on Thursday, endorsing Taylor’s congressional bid, accompanied by Taylor Swift’s hit ‘Shake It Off.’

Flo Rida managed to draw a large crowd for his performance, unlike other performers at the fair, which has been dogged by low attendance, electrical issues, and a brutal heatwave.
