Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) is “paralyzing” the Pentagon with his hold on the confirmations of hundreds of military officers.
“To hold up the top brass from being promoted and lower brass, I think, is paralyzing our Department of Defense,” said McCaul, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“This idea that one man in the Senate can hold this up for months, I understand maybe promotions, but nominations, is paralyzing the Department of Defense,” McCaul added.
Tuberville has blocked more than 300 military promotions for six months to protest the Department of Defense’s policy to reimburse military service members who are forced to travel out of state to receive abortion care.
“I really wish he would reconsider this because we’re working this issue out in the National Defense Authorization,” McCaul said Sunday. “We’ve worked it out on the House side. We’re going to conference in the Senate. We’re going to work out this abortion issue.”
