Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) told right-wing billionaire Elon Musk to focus on recalled Teslas instead of the bipartisan immigration bill.
In an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Lankford was asked to respond to Musk’s false claim that the legislation would allow “illegals to vote!”
“I think he needs to go back to doing the two million Teslas that are currently being recalled right now to be able to focus in on that. No, it’s not focused on trying to be able to get more illegals to vote. That’s absurd,” Lankford said. “It is against the law for anyone that is not a citizen of the United States to be able to vote in the U.S. in any federal election. That remains so. Obviously, we’re not dealing with that.”
Last week, regulators recall more than 2 million Tesla because their warning light panels are too small and not in compliance with federal safety regulations.
Lankford, the lead Republican negotiator on the bipartisan legislation, has doubled down on his support of the bill as members of his party slammed the proposal and pronounced it dead on arrival.
