Donald Trump accused the country’s top military official, Gen. Mark Milley, of treason and said he would have been put to death “in times gone by.”
Milley is set to retire as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on October 1. He was appointed by Trump to the position in 2018. However, their relationship has since deteriorated to the point where Milley compared Trump to Adolf Hitler and Trump called Milley a “fucking idiot”.
In a post on his Truth Social app Friday, Trump took it a step further and suggested that Milley would have been executed for treason “in times gone by” and that all Americans should “celebrate” his retirement.
“Mark Milley, who led perhaps the most embarrassing moment in American history with his grossly incompetent implementation of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, costing many lives, leaving behind hundreds of American citizens, and handing over BILLIONS of dollars of the finest military equipment ever made, will be leaving the military next week,” Trump wrote.
“This will be a time for all citizens of the USA to celebrate! This guy turned out to be a Woke train wreck who, if the Fake News reporting is correct, was actually dealing with China to give them a heads up on the thinking of the President of the United States,” he continued.
“This is an act so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been DEATH! A war between China and the United States could have been the result of this treasonous act. To be continued!!!” Trump added.
Trump’s comments came after The Atlantic reported that Milley told his friends that if Trump is reelected as president in 2024 he’d “start throwing people in jail, and I’d be at the top of the list.”
