The Department of Interior is comparing the algae that thrived in Donald Trump’s newly renovated reflecting pool and turned the water green to Iran’s Navy.

“The advanced nanobubbler technology very effectively killed the algae that has plagued every Lincoln Reflecting Pool reopening—most infamously [former President] Obama’s reopening—since 1922,” the department’s press team wrote on Twitter.

“The Reflecting Pool water is crystal clear, and our National Park Service team is now vacuuming up the dead algae resting on the bottom of some parts of the Reflecting Pool—just like the destroyed Iranian Navy resting on the bottom of the Persian Gulf,” the department added.

During the war with Iran, Trump repeatedly claimed Iran’s navy and air force are “gone” and suggested Tehran’s leaders are ready to make a deal. But the deal he ultimately signed was widely panned as a surrender to Iran.

Despite the Interior Department’s claim that the pool water is ‘crystal clear,’ videos show the water is still a shade of green. The Washington Post reported that the algal bloom in the reflecting pool is the largest recorded in June in at least five years.

Videos also show worsening conditions at the pool as the recently applied blue paint peels off the bottom.
