The Wyoming Republican Party voted on Saturday to censure Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney for voting to impeach Donald Trump last month.
Of the 74 members of the Wyoming central committee, only eight voted against the censure.
The censure document accuse Cheney of voting to impeach Donald Trump without offering him a “formal hearing or due process.”
Cheney defended her vote to censure Donald Trump in a statement after the censure vote, writing: “I’m honored to represent the people of Wyoming in Congress and will always fight for the issues that matter most to our state. Foremost among these is the defense of our Constitution and the freedoms it guarantees.”
“My vote to impeach was compelled by the oath I swore to the Constitution. Wyoming citizens know that this oath does not bend or yield to politics or partisanship. I will always fight for Wyoming values and stand up for our Western way of life,” she added.
Six of the ten Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump have been censured or rebuked by the Republican Party in their respective states.
Cheney survived a vote to remain as conference chair as she faced calls to step down from some within her her conference.
