Republicans in Arizona voted on Saturday to censure three prominent Republicans in the state who spoke out against Donald Trump.
Cindy McCain the widow of late Sen. John McCain, former Sen. Jeff Flake and the current GOP Gov. Doug Ducey have all been censured by Republicans in Arizona.
McCain endorsed Joe Biden for President in the 2020 election over the Republican candidate, Donald Trump and served on his transition advisory board.
“Maybe (Ward) should be reminded that my husband never lost an Arizona election since his first win in 1982,” McCain said in a statement before the vote, according to the Associated Press.

McCain was previously censured by the Maricopa County Republican committee.
Former Sen. Jeff Flake also endorsed Biden in last year’s election after been critical of Donald Trump since he decided not to seek re-election for his seat in 2018. Before the vote to censure him, Flake wrote on Twitter: “If condoning the President’s behavior is required to stay in the Party’s good graces, I’m just fine being on the outs.”
The state’s current Republican governor Doug Ducey is also on the outs with his own party because of his COVID restrictions and breaking with Donald Trump to certify the state’s election for Joe Biden.
The censures are symbolic but it shows that the Arizona Republican party remains loyal to Donald Trump even after he lost the state to a Democratic candidate for president –the first time since 1992–and cost then two seats in the United States Senate.
Republicans also reelected Kelli Ward as chairwoman. Ward is among the most prolific promoters of Trump’s baseless allegations of election fraud and have sued many times to try and overturn the results of the election in the state.
