Billionaire Elon Musk deleted a controversial post he made after the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, claiming that it was a “joke.”
In response to a possible second assassination attempt against Trump, Musk questioned why no one has tried to assassinate President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris.
“And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala,” Musk wrote in response to a user name Doge Designer who asked on X, “Why they want to kill Donald Trump?”
The post drew condemnation from several X users with some calling for Musk’s government contracts to be revoked while others tagged the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI.
Early Monday morning Musk deleted the post claiming it was a “joke”.
“Well, one lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious as a post on X,” he wrote, adding later, “Turns out that jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is plain text.”
On Sunday, Trump’s Secret Service detail fired at a man who was reportedly spotted hiding on the former president’s golf course behind a bush with an AK-47 rifle.
The man was detained by Florida authorities in relation to the potential assassination attempt and has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58.
