U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, suggested on Sunday that the Department of Justice may target ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl for vandalizing the Reflecting Pool.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Karl of trying to damage the Reflecting Pool after a video circulated on social media showing the journalist inspecting the pool, which has been struggling since Trump’s failed renovation attempt.

“Lightweight ABC Reporter, Jonathan Karl, was seen sticking his hand into the Pool, and trying to rip the rubber off of the surface,” Trump claimed.

The Reflecting Pool is now a sea of green due to algae buildup, and large chunks of its new “American Flag Blue” paint have begun peeling off and floating to the surface days after Trump’s $14.6 million renovation was completed. Trump has blamed ‘vandals’ for the current state of the pool and has been calling for “years in jail” for anyone who vandalized the pool.

Asked on Sunday if Karl could face vandalism charges, Pirro said it is a possibility.

“Anyone who is in a position of vandalizing — or attempting to vandalize — the reflecting pool will face the criminal justice system in D.C. The president has made it a priority to make D.C. not only safe but beautiful,” Pirro told Fox News’ Peter Doocy. “And there are several citations that have been handed out to individuals. And these are cases that will be prosecuted to the full extent. If there are more serious products that are put into the reflecting pool to create more algae or a bigger problem, then we’ll consider more serious charges. But make no mistake, making D.C. beautiful is a priority. And if you damage, vandalize, or do anything to impact something like the reflecting pool, you can be prosecuted.”

On Friday, a former Olympian was arrested and charged with misdemeanor destruction of government property after allegedly touching a chunk of paint that was peeling off the bottom of the pool.
