Donald Trump’s claim that Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told him that he cannot vote for a Democrat after his assassination attempt earlier this year is a lie, the company says.

In an interview with New York Magazine‘s Olivia Nuzzi, Trump said that Zuckerberg promised he would “never vote” against him and not vote for “a Democrat” in 2024 after his attempted assassination at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania this summer.

“Mark Zuckerberg called up and said, ‘I’ve never supported a Republican before, but there’s no way I can vote for a Democrat in this election.’ He’s a guy that, his parents, everybody was always Democrat,” Trump told Nuzzi.

“He said, ‘I will never vote for the people running against you after watching what you did,’” Trump continued. “So I mean, people really appreciated it. I don’t — I think it was very natural what I did. I think it was natural.”

However, a Meta spokesperson told Nuzzi that Trump’s claim is not true.

“As Mark has said publicly, he’s not endorsing anybody in this race and has not communicated to anybody how he intends to vote,” the spokesperson said.

While Zuckerberg did not endorse Trump, he called the Republican presidential nominee reaction to the assassination attempt of “badass.”

Trump later threatened to throw Zuckerberg in prison for life over baseless claims that he was engaged in a conspiracy to rig the 2020 elections against him, referencing a $400 million donation Zuckerberg’s charity made to fund election infrastructure in 2020.
