Anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who said last week that President-elect Donald Trump promised him “control” of health agencies in a second term, said Wednesday there are “entire departments” within the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that “have to go.”
“There are entire departments like the nutrition department at the FDA … that have to go, that are not doing their job. They’re not protecting our kids,” Kennedy said in an NBC News interview.
Kennedy endorsed Trump for president in August after ending his long shot bid for the presidency as an independent candidate.
In return, Trump has said he plans to appoint Kennedy to a key role in his administration, saying he would let the prominent anti-vaxxer “go wild” in dealing with issues related to food, medicine and health.
But, even Kennedy appears to be unclear about his role when asked during a Fox News interview ahead of the election if Trump would nominate him as secretary of Health and Human Services.
“We don’t know what I’m going to do,” he said. “I talked to the president about it and he asked me what I wanted, and I said, ‘We’re developing a proposal now.’”
When asked by NBC News if he would eliminate any health agencies, Kennedy said, “to eliminate the agencies, as long as it requires congressional approval, I wouldn’t be doing that.”
“I can get the corruption out of the agencies,” he added.
