A New York jury on Tuesday found former President Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll in a Manhattan department store in the 1990s.
Carroll, an advice columnist, filed a civil defamation and battery case against Trump, accusing him of raping her in a Bergdorf Goodman store in the 90s and later defamed her after she went public with the allegations in her book published in 2019.
The jury on Tuesday found that Trump did not commit rape, but jurors found that Carroll had proven “by a preponderance of the evidence” that Trump sexually abused.
The jury also found that Trump had defamed Carroll by calling her claims a “hoax” and “a con job.”
Carroll was awarded $5 million in damages for her battery and defamation claims, according to NBC News.
