Twitter will start charging verified users monthly fees.

UPDATE: Twitte updated its app in Apple’s App Store on Saturday to begin charging $8 for blue check verification marks.

Original Story:

Starting early next month, verified users on Twitter will have to start paying monthly fees or lose their verification mark.

According to a report from The Verge, the plan is to change Twitter’s current optional $4.99 plan into a more expensive $19.99 a month plan that also verifies users, according to people familiar with the matter and internal correspondence seen by The Verge.

Verified users under the current plan will have 90 days to subscribe to the new plan or lose their blue checkmark. Employees working on the new project have until next Monday, November 7, to launch the project or they will be fired by Musk.

Musk has been very vocal about revamping Twitter’s verification process and getting rid of bots.

On Sunday he tweeted: “The whole verification process is being revamped right now.”
