West Virginia is offering customized guns as prizes in a lottery for residents who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the Hill Gov. Jim Justice made the announcement on Tuesday as part of a push to incentivize residents to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“To be eligible, you have got to get your first shot,” said Justice. “When I start through these prizes … there’s going to be a run on people getting their first shot. So go get ’em. Go get ’em so you’ll be eligible where we can draw your name, and absolutely you could win something that would be phenomenal.”
Weekly drawings will begin on Father’s Day, June 20, and ends on Aug. 4.
Prizes include five customized hunting rifles, five customized hunting shotguns, two pickup trucks, five lifetime hunting and fishing permits and one $1 million grand prize.
Vaccinated residents between the ages of 12 and 25, can also enter to win one of two four-year scholarships for any educational institution in the state.
Roughly 51% of Americans of all ages have received at least one dose of vaccine and 41% are fully vaccinated, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
