Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) accused House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) of being a liar in the latest internal fight between Republican hardliners and leadership to spill out in public.

On Tuesday, a procedural vote to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) failed as more than a dozen House Republicans refused to advance the must-pass military funding bill without attaching Donald Trump’s voting regulations bill, SAVE America Act, to it.

Miller, who was one of the fourteen Republicans to oppose the NDAA, accused Speaker Johnson of lying about allowing a rule to go forward to attach the SAVE Act to the defense bill.

“There’s one common problem here. It’s always been one person, and for someone who’s got the holiest tongue in the world, he lies more than anyone I’ve ever met,” Miller said, according to Punchbowl News.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La) also voted against moving forward. By switching his vote, Scalise ensured that leadership could bring up the measure again.

“We’ll work on that over the next day and a half, and we’ll get everybody to a yes,” Johnson told reporters. “It makes no sense for us to stop our very important progress forward from House Republicans because some Senate Democrats are refusing to do their job.”

The House has already passed the SAVE Act, but it lacks support in the Republican-controlled Senate to reach the 60-vote threshold to advance, or even has a simple majority support. Last week, Trump abruptly canceled a signing ceremony for a landmark housing affordability bill in an effort to pressure the Senate to pass his voting bill.
