Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) bragged on Monday that the Republican Party always shunned ‘bad candidates’ with allegations of sexual misconduct after bombshell new accusations against Maine senate Democratic candidate Graham Platner.

On Monday, Politico published an exclusive report detailing the allegations by Jenny Racicot, 41, that Platner forced her to have sex despite repeated objections.

Racicot told the outlet she had an on-and-off relationship with Platner for more than two years. In late 2021, Racicot said Platner entered her home uninvited and forced himself on her while he was drunk. Racicot said she terminated contact after the encounter.

Platner denied the allegations, telling Politico, “these allegations are troubling, serious, and false. Any accusation of non-consensual behavior is categorically untrue.”

Platner also released a video on social media saying, “regardless of the inaccuracy of the reporting, but mindful of the political reality it will inflict, we are taking the time to reflect on the best path forward for the state that I love.”

Following the allegations, several prominent Democrats rescinded their endorsement of the Maine Democrat and called on him to drop out of the race.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Fox News, McCarthy praised Republicans for always shunning candidates like Platner.

“One thing I know about Republicans is when we had a very bad candidate, we didn’t vote for that person. We walked away,” said McCarthy. “When Matt Gaetz came forward, we got rid of him.”

Gaetz, the architect of McCarthy’s speakership ouster, resigned from the House of Representatives after facing years of allegations of sexual misconduct. His resignation came on the same day that Donald Trump announced that he had tapped the Florida lawmaker to be his attorney general. Gaetz ultimately dropped out.

In Texas, Attorney General and GOP nominee for Senate Ken Paxton has been accused of corruption, was impeached by the Republican controlled Texas House for abusing his office to help a political donor and is currently going through a divorce from his wife, Angela Paxton, on “biblical grounds” due to infidelity.

Trump has been credibly accused of sexual misconduct by nearly two dozen women. He is also found liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll and has been ordered to pay $5 million.
