Donald Trump lashed out at Senate Republicans on Friday after they delivered a stinging rebuke on his way out the door by overriding his veto of the National Defense Authorization Act, on a bipartisan vote.
“Our Republican Senate just missed the opportunity to get rid of Section 230, which gives unlimited power to Big Tech companies. Pathetic!!! Now they want to give people ravaged by the China Virus $600, rather than the $2000 which they so desperately need. Not fair, or smart!” Trump tweeted.

Trump vetoed the bill because it did not include a provision to repeal Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act that provides a legal shield to tech companies. After the election, Trump became fixated on repealing Section 230 because Twitter started labelling his posts that made unsubstantiated allegations of widespread voter fraud. Trump claims that the statute poses a “very dangerous national security risk.”

The legislation also included a provision requiring Confederate military bases to be renamed within three years, which gave Trump another reason to veto the legislation.
