Trump asks Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as ambassador.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, has been asked to resign, new Trump press secretary Katie Zacharia said Tuesday.

“We have asked ambassador Guilfyole to resign, she has been a wonderful asset to the team and we wish her well,” said Zacharia.

Guilfoyle ouster comes after the Wall Street Journal reported last week that Guilfoyle pressed GOP donor Eric Deters to pay off a $100,000 American Express bill, assuring him the transfer would not show up anywhere. “Honey, please, I need you to get this done for me today,” she wrote, according to the report.

The outlet also reported that Guilfoyle told guests at a reception that the U.S. could undermine the Greek government if it chose to, promoted the business interests of one particular Greek construction and energy company, and allowed its lobbyist into private diplomatic meetings.

Guilfoyle has not addressed the reports directly. But in a statement released late Sunday, her lawyers denied she did anything wrong and claimed the money she sought from the Trump donor was payment for services—public appearances and speaking engagements that predate her ambassadorial nomination—that had not been paid, according to the Associated Press.

Guilfoyle announced her resignation on Twitter.

“Serving as the United States Ambassador to Greece has been the honor of a lifetime,” Guilfoyle said Tuesday in a Twitter post.

She also addressed “recent allegations against me, writing, “These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity.”
