The parents of one of the two men killed by Kyle Rittenhouse said Friday they were “heartbroken and angry ” that a Wisconsin jury had acquitted him of all five charges.

“We are heartbroken and angry that Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted in his criminal trial for the murder of our son Anthony Huber,” the statement said. “There was no justice today for Anthony, or for Mr. Rittenhouse’s other victims, Joseph Rosenbaum and Gaige Grosskreutz.”

“Today’s verdict means there is no accountability for the person who murdered our son,” Huber’s parents said. “It sends the unacceptable message that armed civilians can show up in any town, incite violence, and then use the danger they have created to justify shooting people in the street.”

Rittenhouse, 18, faced charges of first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide for fatally shooting two men and injuring a third during protests in Kenosha in August 2020, following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Rittenhouse claimed he acted in self-defense while the prosecution argues he provoked the protesters by showing up heavily armed to a volatile protest.

He was acquitted of all charges.

The Hubers say they are “proud” of their son and called him a “hero who sacrificed his own life to protect other innocent victims.”

They vowed to fight on.

“Neither Mr. Rittenhouse nor the Kenosha police who authorized his bloody campaign will escape justice,” they said. “Anthony will have his day in court.”
