Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is questioning why officials are using the term ‘drone’ to refer to mysterious drones spotted along the East Coast in recent weeks.
“Why are they calling them drones? For a long time it was UFO [unidentified flying object], then it became UAP [unidentified aerial phenomenon],” Green wrote in a post on X.
“Ever since these things started being seen in NJ, the term used has been ‘drone.’ Who made that the official term and why?” she continued. “That seems to convey knowing what they are versus using an acronym starting with a ‘U’ that stands for unidentified.”
As residents on the East Coast continue to report drone sightings, a number of conspiracy theories have erupted online about who is behind the mysterious phenomenon. These conspiracy theories range from alien invasion to secret government operation.
Several Republicans, including Donald Trump and Greene, have called for the drones to be shot down.
But, in a joint statement, the FBI and Department of Homeland Security said that there is “no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus.”
White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby also told reporters that the Joe Biden administration has not identified “anything anomalous or any national security or public safety risks over the civilian airspace in New Jersey or other states in the Northeast.”
