Mike Johnson hit with brutal community note after praising Trump’s Iran war update.

House Speaker Mike Johnson‘s (R-La) absurd claim about Donald Trump’s dealmaking abilities, while praising the president’s alleged progress in the war in Iran, was met with a brutal reminder on Saturday.

“President Trump is the ONLY one who could have gotten Iran — the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism — to the negotiating table,” Johnson wrote in a post on Twitter.

“We are greatly encouraged to learn a PEACE DEAL in Iran is underway — and look forward to learning more about the specifics. Under President Trump’s leadership, our nation is stronger, more respected on the global stage, and safer than ever before.”

Trump was not the only person who brought Iran to the negotiating table, as the Speaker was reminded in a community note on right-wing billionaire Elon Musk’s platform.

“Obama and other world leaders have been able to get Iran to the negotiation table,” the note reads, alongside a link to the U.S. State Department’s summary of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal under then-President Barack Obama.

Johnson was responding to a social media post from Trump on Saturday claiming that a broader agreement between the United States and Iran has been “largely negotiated” and that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened.

But the New York Times reported on Sunday that while both sides have agreed in principle to end the Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, they still describe the proposed deal differently.

Iran’s state-affiliated Fars news agency disputed Trump’s characterization, reporting that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iranian control according to the latest version of the proposal exchanged between the US and Iran.

The deal has come under intense scrutiny, including from some of Trump’s closest allies.

By Sunday morning, the president appeared to be backing away from his latest attempt to end the unpopular war of choice he started with Iran, writing in a post on Truth Social that US negotiators are “not to rush into a deal” and that “time is on our side.”
