The Republican controlled Senate voted on Tuesday to limit Donald Trump’s Iran war powers.

In a 50-48 vote, the Senate adopted a resolution directing Trump to remove military forces from the conflict with Iran.

GOP Sens. Rand Paul, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Bill Cassidy joined Democrats in voting for the resolution, while Democratic Sen. John Fetterman voted against it.

The House approved the resolution earlier this month. But because it is a concurrent resolution, it does not require the president’s signature and, by definition, does not carry the force of law, CNN reported. However, it does show that Trump’s war lacks support in Congress.

“Time after time, the vast majority of Senate Republicans sided with Trump and his war instead of the American people,” Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said.

Americans have paid the price for “Trump’s historic blunder in Iran. It’ll go down in the history books as one of the worst foreign policy forays America has ever made,” he added.

The resolution directs Trump to remove U.S. armed forces from hostilities with Iran, unless Congress votes to declare war or authorizes the use of military force against Iran.
